Israel-Hezbollah attacks continue despite international pressure for ceasefire

 

• Israel's PM Benjamin Netanyahu says his team will continue talks with the US over Washington's initiative for a ceasefire in Lebanon so that, he says, displaced Israelis will be able to return to their homes

• This morning there have been fresh exchanges of fire hitting Israel and Lebanon, as Netanyahu prepares to address the United Nations

• Lebanese officials say nearly 800 people have been killed in Israeli strikes since Monday

• Since 8 October last year, there has been near-daily cross border fire between Israel and Hezbollah

• Hezbollah, backed by Iran, says it is acting in solidarity with Palestinians. Israel says it aims to remove Hezbollah's threat, and return displaced people back to northern Israel.

  We've been receiving pictures of Lebanese Red Cross teams searching for people in rubble in Nabatieh, southern Lebanon this morning.

  Earlier, nine people were killed as a result of a strike in Shebaa - a town in the Nabatieh province.
