By Sarah Abramson, Shoebat - “Brunei, a small country with a population of about 400,000 that lies almost entirely within the borders of Malaysia, has made history by becoming the first East Asian country, and a developed one at that, to take on Sharia law.
Sharia will be implemented in three phases, starting last week and being completed in two years. Punishments to take effect begin with fines or jail time (missing Friday prayers, spreading other religions), continue on to whipping and amputations (theft, alcohol), and culminate with the death penalty (adultery, insulting Mohammed or the Koran).
Oh – and those who question or oppose the government’s actions and speak freely about it on social media?
These acts, His Majesty elaborated, “are no doubt categorised as offences under the General Offences (of the law). In addition, the current situation in countries like Pakistan, Syria, and Nigeria is cause for concern regarding the ultimate fate of anyone, regardless of religion, in a Muslim-dominated country.
