Students of prophecy are beginning to reconsider previous interpretations of Daniel 8 and for good reason. When Daniel tried to understand the vision given to him, he wrote that an angel...
...came near to where I was standing, and when he came I was frightened and fell on my face; but he said to me, "Son of man, understand that the vision pertains to the time of the end." [Daniel 8:17 NASB]
Daniel was specifically told this vision was in reference to the time of the end.
As we see today's headlines concerning Iran entering Iraq in the Middle East, consider where Daniel was taken when this vision began:
I looked in the vision, and while I was looking I was in the citadel of Susa, which is in the province of Elam; and I looked in the vision and I myself was beside the Ulai Canal. [Daniel 8:2 NASB]
He was beside the Ulai Canal in Susa which is modern-day Shush in Iran. As he was watching, he saw a ram invading from the east:
Then I lifted my eyes and looked, and behold, a ram which had two horns was standing in front of the canal. Now the two horns were long, but one was longer than the other, with the longer one coming up last. I saw the ram butting westward, northward, and southward, and no other beasts could stand before him nor was there anyone to rescue from his power, but he did as he pleased and magnified himself. [Daniel 8:3-4 NASB]
Here are three articles expanding on this that I consider required reading by every Christian at this point in time:

by Joel Richardson
If you are a student of Bible prophecy, than I want you to get your Bible out and open it to Daniel chapter 8. Now, if you consult nearly any commentary on the Book of Daniel, you’ll find they nearly all interpret this prophecy as fulfilled in history. The prophecy begins with a ram butting to the west, to the north, and to the south, which most believe refers to the historical conquests of the Medo-Persian Empire... (

Prophecy is Being Fulfilled, The Antichrist is Arising as Iran Moves into Iraq
by Walid Shoebat
When Iraq faded from the collective consciousness and few were paying attention to it we wrote: “Iraq will weaken as a result of America’s exit to simply be devoured by Iran.” (Article by Walid Shoebat written in 2012 for Jewish Voice Ministries)
And now that Iraq is under the radar again as Mosul, Iraq’s SECOND largest city, was besieged by the Sunni Al-Qaeda front (ISIS), a closer attention should be focused on Iran, which just moved into Iraq’s capital, and the FIRST largest city, Baghdad is devoured by Iran. Make no mistake about it; this is prophetically significant... (

Is ISIS the Trigger for the Second Signpost?
by Mark Davidson
If you are a regular visitor to this website, or to Joel’s, you are well aware of developments in Iraq these days. The situation looks like ISIS (the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham, which is the Levant) might provoke the start of the Second Signpost. And I’ve been getting many emails, texts and phone calls. The theme is a basic query: “wow, could this be it?” The short answer is yes, it could. The longer more correct answer is contained in the rest of this article... (
