Shocking figures reveal a quarter of imprisoned foreign sex offenders come from just FIVE countries

Government figures show that a quarter of imprisoned foreign sex offenders are from just five countries.

Poland, Ireland, Pakistan, India and Romania make up 457 of the foreign sex offenders in prisons in England and Wales, according to Ministry of Justice (MoJ) figures obtained by The Telegraph under Freedom of Information laws.

That number represented one in four of the 1,731 foreign sex offenders who were in prison in June. It is an increase of 9.9 per cent in a year, figures show. In that same period, the increase in the number of Britons in jail for the same type of offences was 3.8 per cent.

The figures come in the midst of high-profile sexual and violent crimes committed by foreign nationals. Ethiopian asylum seeker Hadush Kebatu, 41, was last week forcibly deported.

He sparked protests across the UK after sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl and a woman in Epping, Essex.
