As Trade Tensions Soar, Chinese Warship Comes Within 45 Yards Of US Destroyer Decatur Forcing Evasive Military Action by Geoffrey Grider The bitter trade dispute between China and the US is increasingly spilling into the military domain, with a risky incident in the South China Sea highlighting the dangers of souring relations. There are two countries that are right now provoking other nations. Russia has been doing a series of fighter jet flybys over British airspace, and China has been getting closer and closer to American military interests in the South Pacific. It is no coincidence that both Russia and China recently held the largest war games together in modern times. FROM THE NAVY TIMES: The U.S. Pacific Fleet says a Navy warship had to dodge a Chinese destroyer during a Sunday morning incident in the South China Sea. In a written statement emailed to Navy Times, Pacific Fleet officials say that a Luyang-class destroyer closed on the Decatur around 8:30 a.m. local time Sunday in “an unsafe and unprofessional" manner near Gaven Reef, making a series of “increasingly aggressive maneuvers” that were accompanied by warnings for the Decatur to leave the area. The Chinese vessel came within 45 yards of the Decatur’s bow before the American warship veered off to prevent a collision, officials said. “U.S. Navy ships and aircraft operate throughout the Indo-Pacific routinely, including in the South China Sea. As we have for decades, our forces will continue to fly, sail and operate anywhere international law allows," added Cmdr. Nate Christensen, Deputy Spokesman for the U.S. Pacific Fleet. The Decatur had been conducting a freedom of navigation operation — a “FONOP” — about 12 nautical miles away from the Gaven and Johnson Reefs in the Spratly Islands. “FONOPs are not about any one country, nor are they about making political statements. However, FONOPs challenge excessive maritime claims and demonstrate our commitment to uphold the rights, freedoms, and uses of the sea and airspace guaranteed to all nations under international law,” Chistensen said. READ MORE

Moreover, less than a kilometer away from the shuttered Christian seminary, a major new center of Islamic studies spanning a total area of 200 acres is scheduled to be built. The Greeks of Turkey -- the remnants of the once great Byzantine Empire -- are a severely persecuted and even almost completely exterminated people. They have been exposed, among other crimes against humanity, to a genocide, pogroms and forced deportations at the hands of multiple Turkish governments. As a result, there are only around 1,300 Greeks left in Istanbul. But in spite of its tiny size, the dying Greek community still suffers from discrimination and violations of its rights. The Turkish government, which keeps the country's greatest Christian theological school closed, is spending a large portion of its annual budget on the worldwide construction of mosques. The Palestinians living in these areas are not Israeli citizens and are not part of the Israeli political system. The Palestinians living in these areas have their own (Palestinian) citizenship, their own flag, their own parliament and their own government. They are not affected by the law in any way. This fact renders their opposition to the law little less than ridiculous. This is the logic of Mahmoud Abbas and the Palestinians: Israel defining itself as a Jewish state is an act of "racism" and "apartheid," while, as a matter of course, the future Palestinian state will be an Islamic state governed by Sharia law, and that, presumably, is not an act of "racism" or "apartheid." Before condemning Israel for seeking to preserve its character as a Jewish state, the world needs to explain why it is all right for the Palestinians to plan that their future state will be ruled by Islamic law. We are witnessing yet another remarkable mirror image brought to us by the Palestinians: once again, they seek to deny Israel precisely what they believe should come to them on a silver platter. In 2002, the Palestinian Legislative Council passed the Palestinian Basic Law, which states: "Islam is the official religion in Palestine. The principles of Islamic Sharia shall be the main source of legislation. Arabic shall be the official language." Iran's supreme leader has called out the two Arab nations by name, accusing them of being behind the Sept. 22 attack on the parade in the Iranian city of Ahvaz, something denied by both Riyadh and Abu Dhabi. "This is the roaring of missiles belonging to the Revolutionary Guard of the Islamic Revolution," a state TV reporter said as the Revolutionary Guard missiles launched behind him. "In a few minutes, the world of arrogance — especially America, the (Israeli) Zionist regime and the Al Saud — will hear the sound of Iran's repeated blows." Al Saud is a reference to Saudi Arabia's royal family. Strong explosions shook the area early Monday, reverberating east of the Euphrates River, he said. U.S.-allied Kurdish fighters have been battling IS in and around Hajin for weeks. The U.S. military's Central Command acknowledged that Iranian forces conducted "no-notice strikes" in the area. We reported to you back in April on something called a 'Beyoncé Mass' that was held out in California at the Grace Episcopal Cathedral. Simply put, the 'Beyoncé Mass' was about 90 minutes of the music of Beyonce, sprinkled with a random sampling of bible verses, and 'preaching' about the various social justice issues of the day. How do you top that? Easy, have a service featuring people in giant tree costumes and 'preaching' about Climate Change. No, not kidding. "Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;" 1 Timothy 4:1 (KJV) The Episcopal Church, commonly referred to as 'Catholic Lite', was never what you might call a real Christian church, certainly not from a Bible believer's perspective anyway. But even for them, this is a stunning departure from doctrine that could even be remotely considered as Biblical. When your church service becomes a combination of a Saturday Night Live sketch and a Chick tract, you know that time is just about up. "He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Even so, come, Lord Jesus." Revelation 22:20 (KJV) FROM THE CHRISTIAN POST: Grace Episcopal Cathedral of San Francisco held an interfaith worship service last week that was part of the multi-day Global Climate Action Summit. In addition to different religious groups participating in the service, a group of people portraying tall Ent-like creatures were part of the ceremony, including the closing processional. The seat of the bishop for the Episcopal Diocese of California, Grace Episcopal Cathedral lists the issue of "climate change" as one of its social justice outreach efforts. "Climate change is one of the most pressing issues of our time. It already adversely affects many lives, especially among the world's poorest people and nations," the church says online. "It is a spiritual and religious issue as much as a political and social one; the earth is loved by God, created by God, in-dwelt by God and we are called to care for it." The service garnered criticism from across the Atlantic in a column published Sunday by The Telegraph. Tim Stanley, leader writer at the Telegraph and editor for the Catholic Herald, cited Grace Cathedral's service as evidence that Western Christianity is "committing suicide." "They have transformed a faith that only extended as far as it did through preaching and martyrdom into something anxious and introspective, excessively concerned with gender pronouns and saving the redwood tree," wrote Stanley. READ MORE
