  So she kept them at home — her stance hardening after seeing many teachers flee to avoid becoming tools for Kremlin propaganda and a local school being used to shield enemy soldiers from attack in Ukraine’s advancing counter-offensive.

  First, she was threatened with a big fine — equivalent to almost £500. Then she was given a chilling warning: her three children, aged between two and 16, would be taken away and sent to Russia for adoption if she continued refusing to send them to school.

  ‘I had to leave at that point,’ said Oksana, 39, a former cook. ‘I could not take the risk of finding out if their threat about my children was real or not.’

• Russia's Vladimir Putin will hold a signing ceremony on Friday formally annexing four more areas of Ukraine after self-styled referendums condemned by Ukraine and the West as a sham.

  Russian-backed officials had earlier claimed the five-day exercise secured almost total popular support.

  So-called votes were held in Luhansk and Donetsk in the east, and in Zaporizhzhia and Kherson in the south.

  The Russian president will make a major speech at the Kremlin.

• Police in Mexico raided the Lev Tahor compound in Tapachula on Friday
• The far-flung group has been dubbed a 'dangerous cult' by Israeli courts
• Women and children were taken into protective custody
• Three-year-old boy returned to Israel with his father, who quit the sect years ago
• Two sect leaders were charged with human trafficking and rape
• Five others were arrested on alleged immigration violations 
• Lev Tahor is known as the 'Jewish Taliban' for its strict rules for women  

• Police in Mexico have conducted a raid on an extremist Jewish sect known for advocating child marriage, arresting two men and reuniting a young boy with his father who left the cult.

  Mexican federal police, with the help of a volunteer team of Israelis including former Mossad agents, stormed the Lev Tahor compound near Tapachula on Friday morning, according to a BBC report citing Israeli sources close to the operation.

  Multiple children were rescued, and one, age three, was reunited with his father Yisrael Amir, a former Lev Tahor member who has been trying to gain custody since disavowing the sect several years ago. 

  Lev Tahor, dubbed a 'dangerous cult' by Israeli courts, has faced allegations of kidnapping and sexual abuse, and its strict rules mandating head-to-toe coverings for women have led some to dub the group the 'Jewish Taliban'.

  The group in Tapachula, which is in Mexico's Chiapas state in far southern Mexico, has lived there since leaving Guatemala in 2014 following friction with locals and tourists there.

I experienced Hurricane Matthew in 2017 as well as Hurricane Irma in 2018, but we on the east coast of Florida didn't see damage like the west coast is now seeing. Please pray for everyone on the west coast of Florida and in Cuba, and pray for us here on the east coast.
