Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky says "Russia has brought war to others, and now it is coming home"
He says the offensive operations in Russia's Kursk region can help bring peace closer, by putting pressure on Russia's Vladimir Putin
Speaking in his evening address, Zelensky said: "Russia must be forced into peace if Putin wants to continue waging war so badly”
The Ukrainian military says its troops now hold 1000 sq km of Russian territory in the ongoing assault
Putin accused Ukraine of "committing crimes" against Russian people and said Kyiv would receive what he called a "worthy response"
Meanwhile, Ukraine's airforce says air raid sirens have been activated across the country following reports of Russian airstrikes
