US says it has targeted Iranian military facilities after responding to attacks on navy ships

 

• Explosions are reported in the Strait of Hormuz, Iran's state broadcaster says, describing an "exchange of fire" between Iran and the "enemy"

• Iranian forces launched "multiple missiles, drones and small boats" as three US ships passed through the area, Centcom says

• "Centcom does not seek escalation but remains positioned and ready to protect American forces" the statement adds

• US President Donald Trump says on social media that "great damage" was done to the Iranian ships, and urges Iran to accept a US-proposed deal

• According to the semi-official Fars news agency, explosions have been heard near Bandar Abbas, Qeshm Island and Iran's capital, Tehran
