UKIP promises Christian conscience protection

Help us to maintain momentum by asking candidates and parties for a response

In an important election development, UKIP has promised legal protection for Christians holding to the biblical understanding of marriage.

The commitment comes in a 'Christian manifesto' issued by the party, entitled 'Valuing our Christian heritage.'  In it, UKIP's leader Nigel Farage MEP writes:

"I have been saying for a long time that we need a much more muscular defence of our Christian heritage ... we believe Christianity should be recognised by Government at all levels."
The leaflet goes on to respond to many of the issues highlighted by our 'Power of the Cross' election initiative and raised by you with your candidates using our postcardsand 'quiz your candidates' email tool.

You can find examples of the media coverage of UKIP's 'Christian manifesto' in theTelegraph and Guardian. You can read more about UKIP's commitments below.
Ask your candidates how they will respond to UKIP's promises

Maintain momentum at this critical point

Last week, at an event supported by 'The Power of the Cross', Labour leader Ed Milibandpromised to look into the challenges faced by UK Christians. But UKIP's 'Christian manifesto' goes much further. It contains specific pledges to protect Christian freedoms and offers responses on a number of other important issues.

This is an important step forward in ensuring that these matters are put on the political agenda.

We shall continue to highlight progress as different parties respond to the fundamental issues being raised through the 'Power of the Cross' initiative.

It is vital that we seize this opportunity and maintain the momentum.

Please help us by contacting your candidates and the political parties to see how they will respond to this latest development and what promises they will make.

Ask your candidates for a response

It's important that we follow up. Please help us!
  • Contact UKIP, expressing thanks for the pledges made.
  • Contact other parties, such as the ConservativesLabour and theLibDems, highlighting what UKIP has promised and asking how they will respond.
  • Contact your local candidates (including UKIP), drawing attention to the document and asking for their response to the issues raised.
  • Attend a hustings event, highlight UKIP's promises and ask your candidates whether they agree and what they think should be done.
  • Let us know about any responses that you receive.
You may wish to point the candidates and parties to UKIP's document and the media coverage of it (e.g. GuardianTelegraph).

You can use our 'Quiz your Candidates' tool to email all your candidates at once. If you wish, you can delete the standard questions and replace them with questions about UKIP's commitments.

Taking action now is worthwhile

Thank you for making the effort to raise important issues of life and liberty, family and foundations during the election campaign.

It is encouraging that UKIP has responded to many of these issues in its 'Christian manifesto' and it highlights the value of raising them.

Please help us to maintain the political momentum by pressing candidates on how they will respond to these issues and to UKIP's pledges.

We want to see other parties respond - especially those that have so far said little.

Please tell us what different candidates and parties say. We are keen to provide Christians with as full as picture as possible as the election approaches.
