Jerusalem Is A ‘Cup Of Trembling’ Because Both The Devil And Jesus Christ Claim It For Their Kingdoms

The bulk of Old Testament prophecy gives witness to the earthly reign of Jesus Christ as well. In fact, if you had to pick a major theme of the entire Bible, it would be the Second Coming and Jesus as King receiving the Kingdom that has been waiting for Him since the foundation of the world.

"Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling unto all the people round about, when they shall be in the siege both against Judah and against Jerusalem. And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it."Zechariah 12:2,3 (KJV)
At the heart of the never-ending conflict between Israel and the mythical nation of Palestine lies the most contested parcel of ground this world have ever seen. It is called Jerusalem. That word occurs exactly 811 times in 764 verses of your King James Bible, and it occurs exactly zero times in the Muslim Qu'ran. In the Bible, Jerusalem is promised to the Jews as their eternal capital, and prophecy says that Jesus Christ will return at the Second Coming and set up His 1,000 Year Reign of perfect peace and justice from David's Throne.
And this is why there is nothing but trouble over the status of Jerusalem. It is a spiritual battle, and it is begin waged right at this very moment both in the spiritual realm as well as the physical realm. The seeds of this conflict being in the writings of the prophet Isaiah in chapter 14.
"How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High." Isaiah 14:12-14 (KJV)
Bible students know that God created Lucifer, whose name means "light bearer", as the most power and beautiful of all of God's created beings. Lucifer started his existence as a "good guy" who guarded the Throne Room of God, and had musical instruments built into his body so when he opened his mouth symphonies of celestial sound sand praised to Almighty God.
"Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created. Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee." Ezekiel 28:13-15 (KJV)
But Lucifer was not happy with being the most powerful created being, his ambitions reached a tad higher than that. Lucifer looked at the Godhead - Father, Son and Holy Spirit - and decided that he wanted what they had. Lucifer wanted not only the celestial Throne, but he also wanted the coming Kingdom that was to be established on Earth in "that day" when Jesus Christ would return to rule and reign.
"Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:" Matthew 25:34 (KJV)
In the book of Revelation, God shows us that Jerusalem is the place where Jesus will return to as King, and set up His earthly reign for a thousand literal, actual, physical years. Six times in chapter 20, God draws our attention to this fact.
"And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years." Revelation 20:4 (KJV)
More than His sacrifice on the cross, more than the establishment of the Church, more than the Pretribulation Rapture, the Second Coming is the number one event in the entire Bible. The Devil wants what Jesus is to receive, he wants the Kingdom of Heaven, he wants to rule over the earth as king. This is the true battle for Jerusalem.
top-5-reasons-why-matthew-25-is-not-about-rapture-churchOUR TOP 5 REASONS WHY MATTHEW 24 CANNOT BE TALKING ABOUT THE RAPTURE OF THE CHURCH
The prophet Zechariah shows us this in great, graphic detail in chapters 10 through 14. We see Antichrist setting up his kingdom over all the earth, and then assembling his forces to do battle against Jesus Christ in Jerusalem! This battle over who will claim Jerusalem has been thousands of years in the making, it is the greatest event in world history.
"In that day shall the LORD defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and he that is feeble among them at that day shall be as David; and the house of David shall be as God, as the angel of the LORD before them. And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem." Zechariah 12:8,9 (KJV)

I think by now you see the real root causes in the "conflict" between Israel and the Palestinians.

The Bible promises that God will never, ever cast off His people the Jews and His holy land of Israel. Sadly, I come across many people who tell me they are Christians, and also tell me that the Jews are not God's chosen people and that Israel is "just another nation". The Bible says different. Very, very different.

God chose the Jews as His people:

  • "For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God: the LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth. The LORD did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than any people; for ye were the fewest of all people: But because the LORD loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn unto your fathers, hath the LORD brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondmen, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt." Deuteronomy 7:6-8 (KJV)

God gave Israel to the Jews forever:

  • "And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee. And I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land wherein thou art a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God." Genesis 17:7,8 (KJV)

God has chosen Jerusalem as His City on Earth:

  • "(But he shall have one tribe for my servant David's sake, and for Jerusalem's sake, the city which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel:)" 1 Kings 11:32 (KJV)
  • "And unto his son will I give one tribe, that David my servant may have a light alway before me in Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen me to put my name there." 1 Kings 11:36 (KJV)
  • "...in the house of God, of which God had said to David and to Solomon his son, In this house, and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen before all the tribes of Israel, will I put my name for ever:" 2 Chronicles 33:7 (KJV)
  • "Thus saith Cyrus king of Persia, The LORD God of heaven hath given me all the kingdoms of the earth; and he hath charged me to build him an house at Jerusalem, which is in Judah. Who is there among you of all his people? his God be with him, and let him go up to Jerusalem, which is in Judah, and build the house of the LORD God of Israel, (he is the God,) which is in Jerusalem." Ezra 1:1,2 (KJV)
So as you watch the events unfolding in the aftermath of Donald Trump recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, remember this. This conflict will never, ever be resolved until after the Pretribulation Rapture of the Church, after the rise of Antichrist, after the entire 7 year period of the time of Jacob's trouble, and not until Jesus returns with the Church on horseback to fight against the combined earthly forces of Antichrist at the Battle of Armageddon.
"And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean." Revelation 19:11-14 (KJV)
Donald Trump declaring Jerusalem to be the capital of Israel is not Bible prophecy, but the events that it will trigger absolutely, 100% is. For the Church, these are the very last moments before the Rapture which removes us before the start of the time of Jacob's trouble.

There are many "christian" wolves in sheep's clothing who want to steal YOUR blessed hope of that event where we will hear "come up, hither!". Hold fast to God's promises, and don't let them take it from you. I meet so many bitter Christians who allowed a wolf to steal their blessed hope, and they exist only to try to do the same to others.
"Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;" Titus 2:13 (KJV)
These are the days of prophecy, are you ready for what comes next?
