João Teixeira de Faria, known as “John of God,” was arrested in December, and faces accusations from dozens of women, who allege he sexually abused them while they were seeking spiritual guidance and treatment.

His given name is João Teixeira de Faria, and he is a phony faith healer from Brazil who goes by his stage name, John of God. He laboured in local obscurity for many years until being discovered by Oprah back in 2010, and became a celebrity after being featured on her 'Next Chapter' show. Oprah never misses a chance to present her New Age, all-is-one, "watch me while I pray to the Universe" non-Christian worldview.
"(For we walk by faith, not by sight:)" 2 Corinthians 5:7 (KJV)
João Teixeira de Faria is just another cog in the end times wheel of people who claim they can heal you in exchange for your money and/or sexual favors provided willing or, in this case, unwillingly. The Charismatic and Pentecostal churches in America are filled with these people. Anybody want a good deal on used angel feathers and gold-filled teeth?
"For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:" 1 Peter 2:21 (KJV)
Christians in the Church Age are not promised a physical healing, and in fact, Peter says that we are called to walk in the steps of Jesus, who Himself was called to live a sacrificial life of service. We can pray and ask God to heal us or a loved one, but nothing in the Bible written to Church Age Christians guarantees that a healing will be given. Sometimes God heals us, and sometimes He allows us to live through it for His glory.
"For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect." Matthew 24:24 (KJV)
If you want signs, miracles and wonders you will have to wait for the time of Jacob's trouble to start, but just two problems with that. First, if you are saved now, Paul says you will be removed in the Pretribulation Rapture, and two, the signs, miracles and wonders in the time of Jacob's trouble are from the Antichrist.

Brazil 'miracle' healer, profiled by Oprah, to face rape trial

FROM REUTERS: On Wednesday, Rosângela Rodrigues dos Santos, a judge in Abadiânia, the small town in central Brazil where Faria’s spiritual center is located, accepted the charges brought against him by four women, and said he must face trial.
Prosecutors allege that Faria raped two of the women, and used fraudulent means to sexually abuse the other two. Faria, who became internationally famous when Winfrey broadcast a report on his psychic healing methods in 2013, has said he is innocent, and denied the accusations.
The first accusation was made on a TV Globo program in December by Dutch choreographer Zahira Maus, who said Faria sexually assaulted her. Globo TV spent three months investigating the story and interviewed a dozen other women who said they had been abused by the healer.
João Teixeira de Faria’s fame has been boosted by supposedly miraculous surgeries he claims to have performed with his hands and without anesthesia.
Oprah Winfrey said in a statement that she visited Faria’s center in 2012 to explore his controversial healing methods for an episode of “Oprah’s Next Chapter” that aired the following year, she said.
“I empathize with the women now coming forward and hope justice is served,” she said.
Prosecutors are still investigating other allegations against Faria, which could see the list of accusers grow. His lawyer, Alberto Zacharias Toron, said his client had not yet been notified of the court’s decision.
“We’re calm and believe justice will be served,” he said. READ MORE
