    Yesterday Ukraine rejected Russian demands that troops in the Black Sea port city lay down their weapons and surrender in return for letting tens of thousands of civilians trapped in the heavily besieged place leave safely - saying promises of amnesty cannot be trusted and they are determined to fight 'to the last soldier'.

    Mariupol has been surrounded by Russian forces for two weeks. A team of Associated Press journalists documented the agony of the conflict-torn city from inside its centre when they learned their names were on a Russian list.
