According to the Cambridge Dictionary, the expression, like a thief in the night means: "secretly or unexpectedly and without being seen." That sounds just about right to me as well. After all, why do thieves break into houses at night? Well, they're unlikely to be spotted at that time. People are asleep or not paying close attention. You might eventually end up hearing or even seeing the thief if he makes too much noise. But the idea is that he comes unexpectedly.

 

The Apostle Paul used the term in context to the Day of the Lord in 1 Thess 5:2. The thief in the night axiom is also linked to the pretribulational rapture and its imminent quality. It's the idea that Christ could come any time for His church. One of the champions of imminence was Gerald Stanton (Kept from the Hour). Non-pretribbers naturally disagree with Stanton's view that the rapture is imminent. They argue for "expectancy" rather than imminence. The idea of expectancy in the place of imminence has been promoted by posttribulationists such as George E. Ladd and Robert Gundry.

 

Doug Egsti's 36 page essay attempts responses to Stanton and other pretribulationists. He insists that some events need to occur before the rapture, although he doesn't get into the heart of the imminence verses. In one example, Egsti notes Arnold Fruchtenbaum's teaching that imminence is applicable only after 70 AD. Then he takes issue with the fact that Fruchtenbaum entertained the possibility that the seven churches of Revelation represented historical eras. How could the rapture then be imminent?

Raymond Ibrahim ISIS Breaks into Christian Coffins, Desecrates Corpses and Crosses A human rights group recently published photos documenting the Islamic State's fanatical and virulent hate for Christians -- even dead ones.  The photos show the Christian cemetery of Qarqoosh, Iraq that was vandalized by the Islamic group.  Among other things, the jihadis opened coffins and desecrated the remains of the dead-- in the picture below, by snapping off the head of a formerly resting-in-peace corpse and throwing the crucifixes surrounding it on the ground. Radioactive Nuclear Device Goes Missing From Iran’s Bushehr Reactor Sparking Concern by Geoffrey Grider The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) is concerned over a missing radioactive device from Iran’s Bushehr nuclear reactor, Saudi-owned Arab newspaper Asharq al-Awsat reported on Thursday. EDITOR'S NOTE: Remember all those interviews Obama gave bragging about how the nuclear treaty his administration negotiated with Iran "locked Iran" into "international scrutiny and control"? How he had all these things in place to "make sure Iran wouldn't have a nuclear weapon for 10 years"? On Thursday, a live, radioactive device was "stolen" from Iran's Bushehr Nuclear facility, and what "security measures" were activated as a result? None at all. They're not even talking about.  Aside from the security concerns, at the forefront in the GCC’s mind is what impact the radioactive device—wherever it may be today—could have on water supplies. According to the newspaper, the device went missing after the car transporting it was stolen. Thankfully, the vehicle was recovered, but the radioactive nuclear device was not so lucky. Iran's nuclear-powered era began on Obama's watch 6 years ago: The GCC has contacted the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) over the incident—both organizations are concerned that Iran’s nuclear program may pollute the waters in the Gulf, Asharq al-Awsat quoted GCC Emergency Management Center chairman, Adnan al-Tamimi, as saying. Most members of the GCC – which includes Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, and Oman – desalinate sea water from the Gulf. If contamination from the device were to reach desalination stations, an already critical situation becomes even more critical. The missing device is set to lose half of its power after 74 days of inactivity, Tamimi said, noting that it still should be handled with care even after that period. Speaking to Asharq al-Awsat, the Arab official criticized Iran’s low security and safety levels at the Bushehr reactor, adding that the lack of Iranian transparency about its nuclear program adds further concerns and anxiousness for the Arab Gulf states. source

The Muslims who did this were just convicted and sentenced to death for their crimes. However, it came at the lives of two poor, illiterate Christians accused of desecrating a Koran on a rumour.

In it he discusses Koran 3:28: “Let believers not take for friends and allies infidels rather than believers: whoever does this shall have no relationship left with Allah—unless you but guard yourselves against them, taking precautions.”  Galil began by explaining this verse as meaning Muslims must never befriend or aid non-Muslims, especially against fellow Muslims.
