PA Arabs Fete 'New Mahdi," Establishment of Calpihate

Thousands of PA Arabs participated in a mass rally in Ramallah earlier this week calling for the establishment of the Muslim Caliphate – the worldwide Islamist government that will “bring the coming of the Mahdi.” the Muslim messiah.

The Caliphate is essentially a union of Muslim countries under the spiritual and political leadership of a single individual, the Caliph. It has been an Islamic concept since the days of Muhammad, when it was established by several of his disciples. The office of “official Caliph” has been disputed at times, with rival would-be Caliphs battling each other for the title.

The last official Caliph was Abdülmecid II, who lost the office in the aftermath of the defeat of Ottoman Turkey in World War I. The best-known Caliph in the West was Suleiman the Great, an early Ottoman sultan who, in the 16th century, conquered most of the Middle East and the Persian Gulf, even conquering parts of Europe, until he was stopped at “the Gates of Vienna.”

With many Muslim states politically and religiously divided, and dependent on the West for support, radical Islamists have been pushing for the reestablishment of the Caliphate – this time to be led by the all-powerful Mahdi, who will unite all Muslims and establish Islam as the dominant religion in the world, ruling for several years before the "Day of Judgment". Although the identity of the Mahdi is a secret, many Islamists believe that he is alive now, and several individuals have claimed the title. Many Islamists were said to have believed that Osama Bin-Laden was the Mahdi, or his right-hand man, until he was killed several years ago by U.S. forces in Afghanistan.

The Ramallah rally included many students from Bir-Zeit University, the PA's most prestigious university located north of Jerusalem and a major recipient of economic funding from the EU and the United States. Marchers gathered at a large mosque in El Bireh, a suburb of Ramallah, and marched to Manara Square, a large gathering place in central Ramallah. Speakers at the rally urged believers to “have faith” in the future, to give up their Western ways, and to do more to fulfill the tenets of Islam.

The rally was sponsored by Ḥizb at-Taḥrir (Party of Liberation), which has its own Mahdi candidate – organization leader Ata Abu Rashta, born in Mandatory Palestine and a long-time resident of a refugee camp near Hevron. Speakers at the rally said that Abu Rashta, as Mahdi, would unify Muslims and establish Sharia law in countries around the world. In addition, the speakers called for unity among all Muslims in order to ensure “victory in Syria,” the “liberation of Palestine from the hated Jews,” and the “freeing of mankind from the chains of capitalism.”

Deployment of a Patriot missile battery and F-16 fighter jets to Jordan was approved over the weekend, a U.S. Central Command spokesman said.
Delivery of the weaponry, as part of a multinational training exercise, was approved by U.S. Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel, CNN said Monday, noting a broader message is being sent.
"In order to enhance the defensive posture and capacity of Jordan, some of these assets may remain beyond the exercise at the request of the government of Jordan," said Lt. Col. T.G. Taylor, a spokesman at the U.S. Central Command.
The missiles, which will be sent from Fort Bliss, Texas, can provide Jordan defensive capabilities as concern grows that Syrian missiles are being shipped to Hezbollah in nearby Lebanon, CNN said. It added the F-16s and their crews will train with Jordanian combat air forces

Attacks on Christian children, both boys and girls, are on the rise in Egypt.

Last week, a six-year-old Coptic Christian boy named Cyril Yusuf Sa‘ad was abducted and held for ransom. After his family paid off the Muslim kidnapper, Ahmed Abdel Moneim Abdel-Salam, he still killed the child and threw his body in the sewer of his house. In the words of the Arabic report, the boy’s “family is in tatters after paying 30,000 pounds to the abductor, who still killed the innocent child and threw his body into the toilet of his home, where the body, swollen and moldy, was exhumed.”

Weeks earlier, ten-year-old Sameh George, an altar boy at the Coptic church of St. Abdul Masih (Servant of Christ) in Minya, Egypt, was kidnapped by “unknown persons” while on his way to church to participate in Holy Pascha prayers leading up to Orthodox Easter. His parents and family reported that it was his custom to go to church and worship in the evening, but when he didn’t return, and they began to panic, they received an anonymous phone call from the kidnappers, saying that they had the Christian boy in their possession and would execute him unless they received 250,000 Egyptian pounds in ransom money.

And about a month before this latter incident, yet another Coptic boy, twelve-year-old Abanoub Ashraf, was also kidnapped right in front of his church, St. Paul in Shubra al-Khayma district. His abductors, four men, put a knife to his throat, dragged him to their car, opened fire on the church, and then sped away. Later they called the boy’s family demanding an exorbitant amount of money to ransom the boy’s life.

While the immediate motive behind these kidnappings is money, another purpose appears to be to frighten Christian families from sending their children to church. Otherwise, why were both boys kidnapped right in front of their respective churches? (Considering that some Egyptian Islamic clerics deem church attendance as worse than attending bars and brothels, the kidnappers likely deem this the “altruistic” side of their greed and hate.)

Meanwhile, as females, Coptic Christian girls are even more vulnerable than Coptic boys. As an International Christian Concern report puts it, “hundreds of Christian girls … have been abducted, forced to convert to Islam, and forced into marriage in Egypt. These incidents are often accompanied by acts of violence, including rape, beatings, and other forms of physical and mental abuse.”

Most recently, fourteen-year-old Agape Essam Girgis went to school accompanied by a Muslim social worker and two teachers, one of whom was a Salafi, and never returned. After protests, she was eventually “handed over to her family and the church priest where she stayed with his family for some time due to the terrible ordeal she experienced during her abduction.” According to a Coptic bishop involved in the case, what happened to Agape—whose name is based on the biblical word for “brotherly love”—is “heart-breaking.” She was drugged and awakened to find herself in a secluded place with an elderly woman and Salafis who tried to convert her to Islam, forced her to wear the full hijab, and beat her... Sooner or later Israel will have to bomb Iran. Better sooner, because Iran is quickly approaching Israel’s red line.

Israel is committed to destroying the S-300 missile defense systems should they arrive in Syria.

Close to 5,000 Hizbullah troops, if not more, are now fighting in Syria. Thus they are concentrated, which makes their destruction easier. Also they are no longer guarding, with full force, their missiles stored in Lebanon.

Israel could call for a mobilization due to perceived threats from Syria. Then it could mount an all-out ground attack on the stockpile of missiles in Lebanon. The Sunnis in Lebanon, including the Lebanese government, would probably stand aside and let Israel solve their Hizbullah problem for them.

Israel could then go east and destroy the Hizbullah troops.

Hamas would stay quiet because it is in Qatar’s interest and Turkey’s interest that they do so. Qatar and Turkey would love to see Israel destroy Hizbullah because that would aid their efforts to bring down Assad.

Obama would like that too. It would take the pressure off the US to act.

It would be nice to get Hizbullah out of the way for when Israel attacks Iran. Saudi Arabia and Qatar would be supportive.

Unfortunately, the "sugar high" produced by those foolish measures is starting to wear off. When it comes to Mystery Babylon, the common theory among many Protestant theologians is to equate it with Rome since according to them Rome is the city of seven hills. Others even equate it with actual Iraq itself since Iraq was where the original Babylon resided. Years ago, several books were even written on Saddam Hussein who supposedly was rebuilding Babylon, and Christians gulped up the books without truly examining the evidence. Saddam was simply rebuilding a tourist attraction where Nineveh once stood. The project was later abandoned, and Saddam died on the gallows and all these prophecy books with him.

But when presenting a multitude of biblical evidence, people still angrily deny it because they etched in their minds a verse or two they say prove it’s still Rome while adhering to a centuries-old theory initiated by Martin Luther. That plus the fact today’s Catholics do not bite. In fact, a clue to the real Babylon was just presented inan article by WND’s Aaron Klein when he stated: “Forces in the Persian Gulf and Arab intelligence services have noted the establishment of Iranian missile launch sites aimed in the direction of Saudi Arabia and Qatar, according to Egyptian and Jordanian intelligence officials speaking to WND.”

Yet no one in the prophecy arena even raised a red flag about the significance of this report; Iran (biblical Elam) must destroy Arabia. In Isaiah 21:9, Isaiah levels a prophetic oracle against Babylon using the same announcement in Revelation 18:1-2 and Revelation 14:8: “Babylon is fallen, is fallen”:

“The burden against Dumah” (Isaiah 21:11)
“The burden against Arabia” (Isaiah 21:13)
“All the glory of Kedar will fail” (Isaiah 21:16).

These are all in Arabia, which is destroyed by Iran “Elam” (Isaiah 21:2).

There has been an immense oversight by many in the field of biblical eschatology: When it comes to the destruction of end-days Babylon, Scripture makes no mention of any of the ancient Babylonian cities – Nineveh, Ur, Babel, Erech, Accad, Sumer, Assur, Calneh, Mari, Karana, Ellpi, Eridu, Kish, or Tikrit. Rather, all the literal references in Scripture are in Arabia.

The use “MOTHER OF HARLOTS,” while it is commonly attributed to the Vatican’s Mariology as the worship of Ishtar, history records that the worship of Ishtar “Kilili,” or “Queen of Harlots,” originated from Arabia, not Rome [Patricia Turner and Charles Russell Coulter, Dictionary of Ancient Deities, page 242, Ishtar, Oxford University Press US, 2001]. In fact, when Muslims roam roundabout the black stone, it is a throwback to the worship of Ishtar whom they called Athtar and Allat.

When it comes to the Harlot woman, the Ka’ba is a perfect match; the black tarp is considered by Muslims a woman’s dress (kiswa), as Edward Gibbons elaborated: “The kiswa of the magnificent Ka’ba is what is used for clothing of a [virtuous] covering, on top of it, it is written, the Kaaba’s dressing, meaning ‘we have dressed her her dress.” ["The Decline and Fall of The Roman Empire, Volume 6, Chap. 1] Everything that describes the harlot fits the Ka’ba: dress, pearls, jewels, gold, silver and even the blasphemies etched in silver threads with golden inlays across her attire. Just the doors of the Ka’ba alone has 280 kilograms of pure gold.

The reference to a prostitute in Revelation 17, the “Whore of Babylon,” is no coincidence: “And the woman (whore) was arrayed in purple and scarlet color” (v. 17) resembles the near copulating with the Ka’ba’s Black Stone, which historically was dedicated to Aphrodite, the prostitute goddess that was called “Aphrodite Porne” (Aphrodite the Prostitute). “The goddess adorned in purple” is similar to the depictions given in Revelation 17:4, while the Ka’ba has a scarlet inner garment.

John of Damascus notes, “After the Hajj was preformed by Muhammad, the ‘rubbing and kissing the [of the Black Stone] … was extremely passionate.’” Muslim tradition even perpetuates the blasphemy that, “Abraham had sexual intercourse with Hagar on it” (Sahas. Heresy, pages 88-89). Francis Burton (Vol. 3, page 295) writes regarding the Ka’ba, “The part of the cover (Kiswa), covering the door, is called [a Burka] just like the veil the Arabic women are wearing in front of their face … in fact, Arab mystics even compare the Ka’ba to a virgin, adorned with her finest wedding dress.” Even today during their Hajj pilgrimage, Muslims kiss, rub and caress the Black Rock.

Furthermore, it is impossible to even consider that Isaiah 21 was regarding a historic battle between Persia and ancient Babylon since the multiple references throughout are not connected to ancient Iraq but to Kedar, Tema, Dedan and Dumah, which is in Saudi Arabia near Yathrib (Medina) and today is known as “Dumat el-Jandal.” Dumah, one of the sons of Ishmael, is also associated with Edom and Seir in Isaiah 21:11. It is believed by many that Kedar, Ishmael’s sons, is the line from which Muhammad descended.

Even Muslims recognize this when they read Isaiah 21; they see Isaiah 21:14-15 as the story of Muhammad when the Muslims emigrated from Mecca to Medina (Tema) in which they were fed and rescued from the sword. No Westerner was able to interpret:

“The inhabitants of the land of Tema brought water to him that was thirsty, they prevented with their bread him that fled. For they fled from the swords, from the drawn sword, and from the bent bow, and from the grievousness of war.”

The Bible depicts that in this time, it will not be like the time when Muhammad fled; all Arabia, including the Glory of Kedar (Mecca), will be destroyed. How else can anyone interpret: “No Arab will pitch his tent there, no shepherd will rest his flocks there” (Isaiah 13:20)? Arabs pitch tents in Arabia, not Rome. The ultimate fulfillment of this verse is the destruction of the last-days Babylon. We know this because the passage speaks about “the day of the Lord” (v. 9) with the “heavens not giving light” (v. 10). This is not historical, but end-times related.

Then we have the Red Sea: “The earth is moved at the noise of their fall, at the cry the noise thereof was heard in the Red Sea” (Jeremiah 49:21). Red Sea is a geographic indicator as to where the last-days Babylon will be located. Look at Mecca on any map and you will see that it sits near the Red Sea. Some may object that Jeremiah 49 is speaking about Edom, which was primarily located in modern-day Jordan. Yet in Ezekiel 25 “Edom” stretches from Teman (Yemen) to Dedan (Saudi Arabia)” (v. 13). Greater Edom included all of the west coast of the Arabian Peninsula.

Notice the description of her destruction: “‘As Sodom and Gomorrah were overthrown, along with their neighboring towns,’ says the LORD, ‘so no one will live there; no man will dwell in it’” (Jeremiah 49:18).

It is no wonder why Iran is focused on Saudi Arabia, since the Bible predicted that the harlot is destroyed by the beast she rides, that is, the nations she deceived with her spiritual harlotry – Islam.

Motorola has announced it is looking at alternatives to traditional passwords in a bid to make logging into online sites, or accessing mobile phones, more secure.

Among the ideas discussed at the D11 conference in California on Wednesday were electronic tattoos and authentication pills that people swallow.

The tattoos, developed by Massachusetts-based engineering firm MC10, contain flexible electronic circuits that are attached to the wearer's skin using a rubber stamp.

Motorola's senior vice president of advance research, Regina Dugan, shows off an electronic tattoo at the D11 conference in California. The tattoos, designed by Massachusetts-based firm MC10, are made from silicon and contain electronic circuits that bend and move with the wearer's body. The tattoos, called Biostamps, were designed for medical purposes to track a patient's health, but Motorola thinks the technology can be used for authentication purposes, as an alternative to traditional passwords

HOW DOES THE MC10 ELECTRONIC TATTOO WORK?

A researcher at the University of Illinois used standard CMOS semiconductor computer chip technologies to create the Biostamp.

It uses high-performance silicon and can stretch up to 200 per cent.

The Biostamp can monitor temperature, hydration and strain, among other medical statistics

The first prototypes were stuck on using an plaster-style patches.

More recent prototypes are applied directly to the skin using a rubber stamp.

It can then be covered with spray-on bandage to make it more durable and waterproof enough to wash.

The MC10 Biostamp is said to last up to two weeks before it starts to come loose.

MC10 originally designed the tattoos, called Biostamps, to help medical teams measure the health of their patients either remotely, or without the need for large expensive machinery.

Motorola claims that the circuits, which also contain antennae and built-in sensors, could be adapted to work with mobile phones and tablets.

The mobile devices could then be used to confirm the owner's identity and log them in to accounts automatically.

This would prevent thieves and other people from being able to access a phone, or individual apps on the device, if it is stolen or lost.

Another idea presented during the keynote talk at the Wall Street Journal conference with head of Motorola Dennis Woodside and senior vice president for advanced technology and products, Regina Dugan, was a swallowable pill.

The Proteus Digital Health pill has already been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Adminstration and was given European regulatory approval in 2010.

Another password-alternative presented by Motorola at the Wall Street Journal's D11 conference was the 'vitamin authentication pill'. It contains a computer chip that creates an 18-bit signal when swallowed. Motorola is testing whether this signal can 'talk' to mobile phones and be used to authenticate a wearer's identity

HOW DOES THE PROTEUS DIGITAL HEALTH PILL WORK?

The Proteus Digital Health pill contains a computer chip and a switch.

Once swallowed, the acid in the wearer's stomach causes electrolytes to turn the switch on and off.

This creates an 18-bit ECG-like signal that can be picked up by mobile devices and authentication hardware to verify the wearer is the correct owner of the device or account.

It can also monitor heart rate.

The pill was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Adminstration in 2012 after getting European regulatory approval in 2010.

Motorola's Regina Dugan called it the 'vitamin authentication pill' and said the pills can be taken every day for 30 days, if necessary, without any problems.

It contains a computer chip that can be powered like a battery using the acid in the wearer's stomach.

Once swallowed the 'vitamin authentication pill' creates an 18-bit ECG-like signal inside the wearer's body that can be picked up by mobile devices and authentication hardware outside.

This could be used verify the wearer is the correct owner of the device or account.

Dugan continued that the pill could be taken every day for 30 days, if necessary, without any problems.

Woodside added Motorola would not be shipping these 'right away' but they have 'tested it authenticating a phone, and it works.'

He continued: 'Having the boldness to think differently about problems that everybody has every day is really important for Motorola now.'

Dugan, who used to be head of the US Pentagon's Defence Advanced Research Projects Agency, explained that each signal emitted by the pill could be unique to each user.

Both these ideas move away from traditional passwords and towards technology that turns the user into a physical authentication token.

Explaining the reasons behind the plans, Dugan said: 'Authentication is irritating. In fact its so irritating only about half the people do it.

'Despite the fact there is a lot of information about you on your smartphone, which makes you far more prone to identity theft.

'After 40 years of advances in computation, we're still authenticating the same way we did years ago - passwords.

The so-called 'vitamin authentication pill' has been designed by Proteus Digital Health in California. It was passed by the FDA in 2012 after gaining European regulatory approval in 2010. The chip can be swallowed and used to monitor the wearer's health and Motorola thinks it could be used for authentication

PASSWORDS ARE NO LONGER SECURE

A team of hackers, commissioned by technology website Ars Technica, recently managed to crack more than 14,800 supposedly random passwords - from a list of 16,449 - as part of a hacking experiment.

The success rate for each hacker ranged from 62 per cent to 90 per cent, and the hacker who cracked 90 per cent of hashed passwords did so in less than an hour using a computer cluster.

The hackers also managed to crack 16-character passwords including 'qeadzcwrsfxv1331'.

Earlier this month PayPal's chief security officer, Michael Barrett said he wants to see a mixture of online passwords with hardware-based identification such as finger print scanning becoming more common.

Talking at the IT conference Interop in Las Vegas at the start of May, Barrett said: 'Passwords, when used ubiquitously everywhere at Internet-scale are starting to fail us.

'Users pick poor passwords and then they'll reuse them everywhere.

'That has the effect of reducing the security of their most secure account to the security of the least secure place they visit on the internet.'

'In fact it's worse, the average users does it 39 times a day and it takes them 2.3 seconds every time they do it.

'Power users will do it up to 100 times a day.

'So what are we doing about it? Well [Motorola] is thinking of a whole variety of options for how to do better at authentication such as near-term things including tokens or fobs that have NFC or bluetooth.

'But you can also think about a means of authentication you can wear on your skin every day, say an electronic tattoo or a vitamin pill'.

During the talk, Woodside also unveiled Motorola's plans to launch a new handset.

Motorola was bought by Google 2011, which owns the Android operating system.

The new phone, called the Moto X, will be built in Texas and Woodside said he was 'pretty confident in the products we're going to be shipping in the fall'.

Woodside added that the Moto X would benefit from Motorola's expertise in managing ultra-low power sensors -- such as in accelerometers and gyroscopes -- that can sense usage contexts and turn off certain components when not required, to save power.

He added that it will interact in different ways to other handsets and said the camera would 'fire up in a way not seen before' calling the handset 'more contextually aware' than other phones.

Motorola's engineers have also come up with processors that will help save power, but didn't elaborate further.

SIGNS OF THE END OF THE AGE, PART 7, - ISLAM!

The final sign in this series is both controversial and not as yet so widely accepted.

At the end of this present age an empire will gain ascendancy. In Revelation it is described as a beast which the whole earth follows after (Rev 13: 3). The beast is both an empire and a man who heads the empire and leads the final revolt against Christ (Rev 19:19). It has been generally accepted that this man is also the one who is described elsewhere as ‘the man of lawlessness’ (2 Thess 2: 3).

Over the centuries various interpretations have been offered with regard to this man. The Westminster Confession declared; “nor can the Pope of Rome in any sense be head thereof; but is that Antichrist, that man of sin and son of perdition, that exalteth himself in the Church against Christ, and all that is called God”. The Pope was identified as the man of sin and the Roman Catholic Church as the Harlot of Revelation 19. More recently interest has switched to either a revived Roman Empire in the form of a united Europe or a Globalist conspiracy. Both are seen as the possible background to the rise of the man of sin and the beast empire.

An alternative view is that Islam is best placed to fulfil the prophecies regarding the Beast and his empire. Set out below are some reasons for identifying Islam with the Beast.

Doctrine

“This is the antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son.” 1 Jn 2: 22
“Say (O Muhammad): “He is Allah, The one and only; Allah to whom all creatures turn for their needs; he begets not, nor was he begotten; there is none like him.” Qur’an 112: 1-4.

From its inception Islam denied that God had a son. No other world movement, philosophy or religion has so emphatically denied the fatherhood of God. There have been many movements which have denied the existence of God or tried to supplant Him. There has been much false teaching and misrepresentation of God. But only Islam has built its whole creed on the denial of the Father and the Son. The oldest Islamic writings in existence are the mosaics in the Dome of the Rock, Jerusalem. They contain an emphatic denial that Jesus is the Son of God.

Character of Islam

“its legs of iron, its feet partly of iron and baked clay.” Daniel 2:33
This is part of the prophecy of the statue to be found in Daniel 2. The prophecy sees five empires which will arise in the future. The first kingdom is Nebuchadnezzar’s Babylon. The final empire is described as feet and toes made of iron and clay which will be shattered at our Lord’s return. It is a fitting description of Islam, which in some ways is strong but is also deeply divided into factions. It is interesting that the Chaldean word for mixed used in this chapter is arab.

The time of the Antichrist’s kingdom

“And the ten horns which you saw are ten kings, who have not yet received a kingdom, but they receive authority as kings with the beast for one hour”. Revelation 17:12
It is difficult to reconcile this prophecy of the kings, only holding power for one hour, with the nations of Western Europe. The kingdoms of Europe have exercised considerable authority over this world for many centuries. In the Middle East there are ten nations, which have only recently gained independence. The time of their formation corresponds to the same period in which the new nation of Israel was established. They are all Muslim and have yet to achieve authority over other nations..

The beliefs of Islam

Muslims believe that Jesus was born supernaturally of the Virgin Mary, but he was only a man. He was a great prophet, but little of his teaching is found in the Bible as the early church tampered with the records. He was not crucified. Someone else was mistaken for Him and crucified in His place. At the end of his ministry, He was taken up to be with God in heaven and it is from there that He will come again. The main beliefs about his coming are:

• He will descend from heaven, although it is not known where. Mecca, Damascus and the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem are all considered possible sites.
• He will declare that he is a man and not God and will oppose and seek to eradicate all false teaching that he is divine.
• He will pledge loyalty to the Mahdi and together they will overthrow the Dajjal (the antichrist).

Others have undertaken more detailed studies on this subject. (‘The Islamic Antichrist’ by Joel Richardson, available from Amazon.co.uk is one which I recommend). The Islamic beliefs about the return of Christ parallel the Bible’s teaching on the Antichrist. In consequence a large proportion of the world’s population is already programmed to receive the man of sin when he comes.

The Empire which died

Revelation 17: 10 identifies the seven heads of the beast as seven kings. These are usually interpreted as the seven empires which have dominated the Holy Land. In turn these empires were: Egypt, Assyria, Babylon, Persia, Greece and Rome. We are told that five have fallen and one is. At the time the prophecy was written Rome the sixth empire ruled Israel. In the succession there is a seventh empire. From history we know that following the fall of Rome, Islam controlled the Holy Land for the next 1300 years. The phrase in verse 10 that ‘he must remain a little while should be interpreted in the context of Revelation which sees the coming of the Lord as ‘soon’. Against the immediacy of all the other prophecies this one has a period of time connected to it. Then an eighth empire which is one of the seven will close this sequence.

In another description of the beast empire in Revelation 13:3 one of the heads has received a fatal wound. To the amazement of the world it recovers from this wound coming back to life. Therefore this eighth beast empire is one of the former empires which has recovered from a fatal wound to the amazement of the world. Some look to a revived Roman Empire to fulfill this prophecy. But Rome did not die from a fatal wound. It petered out over a thousand years. The empire which did die was Islam. With the removal of the Caliph in 1924 the heart of Islam was ripped out.

One Islamic group has described the event in these words: “The 3rd of March, 1924—the world was plunged into darkness. The Khilafah—His light, spread from East to West for over a thousand years—was brought to an end. The consequences were unimaginable: death, destruction, chaos, exploitation. After 80 years of the absence of the Khilafah, the Muslim world has awakened from its slumber, and the Ummah [the community of all the world's Muslims] is ready to resume its political destiny. From the darkness will emerge a new light.”

For decades Islam was seen as a moribund religion. Even in Islamic lands there were strong movements to abandon Islam and copy the West. Then came the Islamic revival. Islam is growing in influence day by day.
Location of the Antichrist’s Kingdom

In his book “The development of Antichrist” published in 1852, Andrew Bonar demonstrates that scripture identifies the Eastern part of the Roman Empire not the West as the place where the Antichrist takes power. He was writing to challenge the then popular view that the Pope was the Antichrist.

The Antichrist when he arises will reign over the area formerly ruled by the Greek, Persian and Babylonian empires, the area we know today as the heartland of Islam.
This geographical location is underlined in Daniel 11 which describes a conflict between the King of the North and the King of the South. Much of this prophecy is now history. History firmly anchors the context in a struggle between two powers which seek to dominate the Middle East. One power based in Egypt (the King of the South) the other in Syria/Babylon (the King of the North). It is widely accepted that the final part of this prophecy has a future fulfilment. In the divided context of Islam it is easy to envisage how such a conflict may arise. There are deep tensions between the rival factions in Shiite dominated North and the Sunni dominated South.

The Lord loves the descendants of Abraham’s other son Ishmael. In the above interpretation there is hope. The move to restore the Caliph is widespread within Islam. There a longing for Islam to regain its former glory. Many Muslims believe that the restored Caliph will be their promised Mahdi who will usher in a reign of peace over the whole world. Initially all Muslims will welcome him. But according to the Bible there will come a time when he requires worship. At that time their eyes will be opened to the deception. The worship of a man is an anathema to the true Muslim. Too late they will realize that they have been deceived and rise up against the imposter (Daniel 11:40). We pray that in defeat many will turn to their true Saviour Jesus Christ.

The rise of Islam to fulfil its destiny as the eighth and final empire is the seventh sign that we are approaching the end of the age.

First it was the “Arab Spring”. Now it’s the “Turkish Summer”. Tip of the hat to Kurt J for the link, who also points out that even though every Arab Spring protest initially began with elements of liberalism and the hope of true democratic freedom, the end result was the ousting of one dictatorship being replaced by another that was much worse. Turkey will get tough to douse the flames of protests, but too much force will only add fuel to the fire. And if recent history is any indicator, any potential removal of Erdogan and the current government may only result in another that is even more Islamist than the one it replaces …

Thousands of demonstrators massed on streets surrounding Istanbul’s central Taksim Square, long a venue for political unrest, while protests erupted in the capital Ankara and the Aegean coastal city of Izmir.

Broken glass and rocks were strewn across a main shopping street near Taksim. Primary school children ran crying from the clouds of tear gas while tourists caught by surprise scurried to get back to luxury hotels lining the square.
The unrest reflects growing disquiet at the authoritarianism of Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan and his Islamist-rooted Justice and Development Party (AKP).

Riot police clashed with tens of thousands of May Day protesters in Istanbul this month. There have also been protests against the government’s stance on the conflict in neighboring Syria, a tightening of restrictions on alcohol sales and warnings against public displays of affection.

‘We do not have a government, we have Tayyip Erdogan … Even AK Party supporters are saying they have lost their mind, they are not listening to us,’ said Koray Caliskan, a political scientist at Bosphorus University who attended the protest.
‘This is the beginning of a summer of discontent.’
The protest at Taksim’s Gezi Park started late on Monday after trees were torn up under a government redevelopment plan but has widened into a broader demonstration against Erdogan’s administration. Friday’s violence erupted after a dawn police raid on demonstrators who had been camped out for days.
‘This isn’t just about trees anymore, it’s about all of the pressure we’re under from this government. We’re fed up, we don’t like the direction the country is headed in,’ said 18-year-old student Mert Burge, who came to support the protesters after reading on Twitter about the police use of tear gas.
‘We will stay here tonight and sleep on the street if we have to,’ he said.” Read more.

The prosperity gospel makes a mockery of Christianity

Preachers who get rich by saying success is a mark of divine favour go against what Jesus taught – maybe he had a point.

There is a very good programme on the "prosperity gospel" available on the Radio 4 website right now. Two things need saying about it. The first is that it proves, if anything could, the difficulty of defining religions in terms of their doctrine. Prosperity gospellers pretend to be Christian, but their teaching seems to me absolutely antithetical to everything that makes Christianity worth considering.

What they teach is that God loves and rewards his faithful servants with earthly goods. In practice, the way to do this is to shun the company of losers and hand over 10% of your earnings to the pastor. The riches he accumulates are then a sign that God has blessed him, which means that he is capable of passing on these mighty blessings to you.

The crass horror of these people and their exploitation of the poor and miserable hardly needs stressing. The Charity Commission investigated the church of one of the most successful practitioners in England, Matthew Ashimolowo, after his congregation brought him a timeshare apartment and a Mercedes for one birthday – or at least found that this was what their offerings had been spent on. The American versions are even richer and more repulsive.

Oddly enough, I don't think Jesus would have been too worried by tithing. It was a duty laid on the pharisees of his period and his objection there was that they were hypocrites, and thought that money and scrupulous showy observance could substitute for inner devotion to God, not that they tithed at all. But the idea that you should only mix with successful people, or that success itself is a mark of divine favour, goes completely against his actions as well as his teachings.
Ever since the dawn of monotheism these things have been known to be untrue. Robert Bellah records a fragment, at least 3,000 years old, known as the Babylonian theodicy: "Those who do not seek the God go the way of prosperity, while those who pray to the Goddess become destitute and impoverished."
The whole of the Hebrew Bible, or Old Testament, can be read as a record of people coming to terms with failure. In part this was done by the invention of a heroic past, in the empire of Solomon's time, something that may have been one of the truly great mistakes of history. But it is also directly addressed, in numerous psalms, in Ecclesiastes, and above all in the Book of Job.
Jesus himself took on the mantle of the suffering servant, and was seen by his followers as the fulfilment of that prophecy.
For all those reasons, it is impossible for me to regard the prosperity gospel as Christian. But who is to decide what counts as Christian, or as Muslim for that matter? These are inevitably judgments of value about matters of interpretation. They can't be settled by reference to the scriptures involved and if you look for easy answers there you will find far too many.
Whether or not the prosperity gospel is Christian, the other question to arise is whether it's harmful. The congregations are almost entirely made up of black people in this country, especially west Africans, and poor people in the US, where there is an extraordinary swamp of such teachings. In any case it's an easily observed paradox that those most in need of wealth are least likely to be able to afford tithes.
But at the same time, you might ask what else they might spend the money on. The services themselves are a tremendous rush of energy and fun, like a drug that leaves no hangover and is not even very addictive. While the music lasts, you can dance and sing and forget all your troubles. And there is this to be said for religion as a sort of opium: it doesn't destroy your health. It may be a much less damaging escape from the world. In the BBC programme, the pastor made the point that these churches encourage optimism and that need not always be cruel. Of course, this is little consolation if you are in fact old, unemployable, ill, or the kind of disgusting loser that Jesus might have hung out with. But those people aren't the target market at all.
For young, healthy, anxious strivers who need reinforcement in the face of discouragement, the prosperity gospel is a much less harmful way of escaping the world than either drugs or gambling, and will not make them nearly as poor as those do, even if it never makes them rich.
But no matter how I argue that these rites may be largely harmless when practised by consenting adults, I still find them disgusting. It matters that they aren't a form of real Christianity, which shows how hard it is to rid myself of the nagging suspicion that Jesus was telling the truth.
