Top Russian scientist who created Sputnik V Covid vaccine 'is strangled to death with a belt in his Moscow apartment in row with intruder'
- Andrey Botikov was a senior researcher involved in making the Sputnik vaccine
- His killer was found by authorities and has since been arrested and charged
Russia's investigative committee has launched a murder investigation after a top scientist was found dead in his Moscow apartment yesterday.
Andrey Botikov, known as one of the 18 scientists who worked on the Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine in 2020, was identified as the man who had been strangled to death with a belt in northwest Moscow.
It was previously reported he had survived the encounter after an intruder broke into his home and started rowing with him over money.

The Home Secretary has waded into the blasphemy controversy surrounding a West Yorkshire school, saying: 'Nobody can demand respect for their belief system, even if it is a religion.'
Kettlethorpe High School in Wakefield found itself in the spotlight after a 14-year-old boy with autism accidentally dropped a copy of the Quran, causing scuffmarks.
The incident was investigated by West Yorkshire Police as a potential hate crime, while four boys involved in the incident were suspended.

Ukraine war: Kyiv orders evacuation in Kupiansk, city it recaptured last year
Ukraine has told some residents to leave Kupiansk, as Russia seeks to re-take the city it left last year.
Kharkiv's military command urged families and those "with limited mobility" to leave due to "constant" shelling by Russian forces.
Russia took the city, an important supply hub, early in the full-scale invasion, with Ukraine re-capturing it last September.
Meanwhile, Wagner group says it troops have "practically encircled" Bakhmut.
Earlier this week, President Volodymyr Zelensky admitted the situation in Bakhmut - around 130km (80 miles) south of Kupiansk - was becoming "more and more difficult".
In Kupiansk, the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration said the evacuation order was due to the "unstable security situation" caused by Russia's shelling of the town and its surroundings.
It said those evacuated would be provided with assistance, including accommodation, food, humanitarian aid and medical support.
Other citizens are also permitted to leave the region, it added. The city had a pre-war population of around 25,000.
