UN warns quake toll may double as Assad under pressure over Syria aid
- A week after the devastating earthquake hit Turkey and Syria, the number of people confirmed to have died has risen to more than 33,000
- But the UN's aid agency on the ground is warning the final death toll from the quake is likely to be at least double that
- The US government has called on Syria and all parties involved to immediately grant humanitarian access to all those in need across the country
- The organisation's head of emergency relief operations, Martin Griffiths, has said the international community has failed the people of north-west Syria
- The country's White Helmets group has also complained about the absence of global support in the region
- Meanwhile, officials in Turkey say 113 arrest warrants have been issued in connection with the construction of buildings that collapsed in Monday's quake
