ISRAEL VOWS EVEN HEAVIER BOMBING OF GAZA AS HAMAS SAY THAT 55 WERE KILLED OVERNIGHT!

 Israel's military has vowed to intensify air strikes on Gaza and has warned Palestinians still in the north of the territory to flee south

1. A military spokesman said this would allow Israel to "minimise the risks to our forces in the next stages of the war" - which is expected to be a ground invasion
2. Meanwhile, Hamas says 55 people were killed in air raids on Gaza overnight - Israel says it killed "dozens of terrorists".
   
   
   
3. Graphic images show the bodies of about a dozen dead children, and many other Palestinians, at a hospital morgue in central Gaza. It is not clear when or where they died
4. Separately, the Israeli military says it struck a Hamas cell sheltering in a mosque in the occupied West Bank
5. The UN hopes it can get more aid into Gaza today - after vital supplies yesterday reached people for the first time since fighting erupted
6. It's two weeks since Hamas launched its assault on Israel, killing more than 1,400 people. Palestinian officials say more than 4,300 have been killed in Gaza since then

7. In our previous post, we reported on the Israeli air strike overnight in Jenin in the West Bank.

   In case you need a reminder, the West Bank is an area of land located - as the name suggests - on the west bank of the River Jordan and bounded by Israel to the north, west and south. To its east lies Jordan.

   It has been occupied by Israel since the 1967 Middle East war, but decades of difficult on-off talks between Israel and the Palestinians - both of whom assert rights there - have left its final status unresolved.

   Between 2.1 million and 3 million (sources vary) Palestinian Arabs live in the West Bank under both limited self-rule and Israeli military rule.

   The West Bank (excluding East Jerusalem) is also home to some 430,000 Israeli Jews who live in more than 130 settlements built under Israel's occupation.

8. We've been seeing a lot of very graphic images coming out of Gaza this morning, some of them showing the bodies of dead children at a hospital in central Gaza.

   The images from the Al Aqsa hospital show the bodies of at least 11 children - including two babies - and many other dead Palestinians being wrapped in shrouds. The images come from a photographer working for the AFP news agency.

   
   
   

   Many of them are too graphic for us to show here. When we report on this conflict, we have to decide what is appropriate to show you. We want to reflect the gravity of this war, and its toll on civilians, while being sensitive about what you, the audience, is exposed to.

   One of the images shows dead children lying beside one another on a sheet, some with visible head injuries. Another image shows a child in the arms of a man - both are dead and the man has a clear facial injury.

   It is not clear from the photos when or where the people died.

   The hospital is in the small city of Deir El Balah, which has been hit by Israeli strikes over the past week. The city is outside the northern Gaza evacuation zone that Israel has told civilians to leave and flee south. Israel has continued to bomb central and southern Gaza.

   We're working today to find out more about what is happening at this hospital - and at others across Gaza.
