US President-elect Donald Trump has appointed Elon Musk to jointly lead a new "Department of Government Efficiency"
Musk will lead the body with Republican Vivek Ramaswamy - it's essentially an advisory role, writes our correspondent David Willis
Trump says the body will "dismantle government bureaucracy" and could be the "Manhattan Project of our time" - a reference to the top-secret effort to develop nuclear weapons during World War Two
Meanwhile, John Ratcliffe is appointed director of national intelligence and Kristi Noem will lead the Department of Homeland Security
And Republicans are closing in on a majority in the House of Representatives
