New Stage in Terror: Shooter Acts Brazenly with Jerusalem Assassination Attempt

The assassination attempt on a well-known Jewish rights activist in Jerusalem was more than the second terror attack in just a week in Israel’s capital—it was a brazen and aggressive strike at the Jewish people. According to Israeli Police Spokesman Micky Rosenfeld’s Twitter account, the shooting is being labeled an attempted assassination, and that sets it apart from past terror.

Jerusalem has been the scene of far too many attacks in its history, but they generally target random groups of people. Sometimes a specific type of Israeli is targeted—such as Yeshiva students or soldiers—but Haaretz reported that the apparent target of this hit job was Yehuda Glick, the leader a group that promotes Jewish rights to pray on the Temple Mount.

Furthermore, Haaretz quoted an Israeli legislator present at the shooting, Moshe Feiglin, who said the gunman asked Glick about his identity with an Arab accent before firing.

Rosenfeld’s Twitter account said the police was searching for a motorcycle that fled the scene. He further said that the victim was in serious condition.

The attack comes just a week after a terrorist rammed into a crowd with a vehicle in Jerusalem and less than three months after another motorcycling shooter attacked a soldier.

Lenny Ben-David, an Israeli consultant who publishes IsraelDailyPicture.com, highlighted the similarity between the motorcycle attack from August to the Glick shooting on his Twitter page. Ben-David pointed out that the Glick shooter had solid intelligence to know that Glick was at the conference.

In other words, this was no random act of violence and it came even as Jerusalem was on heightened security, according to Rosenfeld. Because of that, this attack is more than another act of terrorism.

UPDATED REPORT:

Israeli police have killed a Palestinian suspected of shooting a prominent right-wing Jewish activist hours earlier in Jerusalem.

The man was shot after opening fire when police surrounded his home in the Abu Tor neighbourhood, police said.

Rabbi Yehuda Glick was seriously hurt after a meeting where he urged greater Jewish access at a disputed holy site.

Police have taken the unusual step of closing the site to all worshippers and visitors until further notice.

The incident is the latest in a series which have led to an escalation of tensions in Jerusalem.

Rabbi Glick has had surgery for gunshot wounds to his chest and abdomen.

Diplomatic relations between Israel and the US are in a “full-blown crisis” amid growing reports of hostility between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Barack Obama, The Atlantic reported on Tuesday.

In an article written by Jeffry Goldberg, a senior Obama administration official explained that the supposed “unbreakable” bond between Israel and the US “is now the worst it’s ever been.”

The official made no qualms about how he and other Obama officials view the policies of the Israeli prime minister. “The thing about Bibi is, he’s a chickenshit,” the official stated.

US officials are supposedly being frustrated by Netanyahu’s “near-pathological desire for career-preservation” and nothing more, the article claimed.

“The good thing about Netanyahu is that he’s scared to launch wars,” the senior official stated. “The bad thing about him is that he won’t do anything to reach an accommodation with the Palestinians or with the Sunni Arab states.”

“The only thing he’s interested in is protecting himself from political defeat. He’s not [Yitzhak] Rabin, he’s not [Ariel] Sharon, he’s certainly no [Menachem] Begin. He’s got no guts,” the official added.

In regards to Iran, the Obama administration views Netanyahu’s threats to launch a preemptive strike against Iran as completely basis. The empty threats are too little, too late, the official explained.

“It’s too late for him to do anything. Two, three years ago, this was a possibility. But ultimately he couldn’t bring himself to pull the trigger,” he said. “It was a combination of our pressure and his own unwillingness to do anything dramatic. Now it’s too late.”

Over the past week, diplomatic rhetoric between the two nations has heated up as the US condemned Netanyahu’s decision to approve the construction of 1,000 new homes in Jewish neighborhoods in East Jerusalem.

State Department spokeswoman Jen Paski said that Israel’s decision to build across the Green Line was “incompatible with their stated desire to live in a peaceful society.”

Netanyahu rejected American and other international criticism. “We have built in Jerusalem, we are building in Jerusalem and we will continue to build in Jerusalem,” Netanyahu said on Tuesday.

“I have heard a claim that our construction in Jewish neighborhoods in Jerusalem makes peace more distant. It is the criticism which is make peace more distant,” he added.

The “breakdown in relations” between Obama and Netanyahu has brought a new era in Israel-US relations. According to Goldberg, Netanyahu has “written off” the Obama administration with the prime minister changing tactics by appealing to Congress and the American people.

US officials have expressed “red-hot anger” at Netanyahu for maintaining policies to build in Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria.

Netanyahu, who on Tuesday criticized those who condemn Israeli construction beyond the Green Line as “disconnected from reality,” led Goldberg to say that “the Netanyahu government appears to be disconnected from reality.”

“Jerusalem is on the verge of exploding into a third Palestinian uprising. It is true that Jews have a moral right to live anywhere they want in Jerusalem, their holiest city,” Goldberg continued. “It is also true that a mature government understand that not all rights have to be exercised simultaneously.”

In response to The Atlantic’s report, the Prime Minister’s Office rebuffed the report. Israel Radio reported sources inside the office said that Netanyahu “will continue to stand for Israeli interests, and no pressure will change this.”

Speaking at the Knesset Wednesday afternoon, the prime minster made his first public comments about the report. “I respect our ties with the US,” he said. “I am being attacked because I am defending Israel.”

Responding to harsh criticism by senior US officials, Israel’s Economy Minister Naftali Bennett said on Tuesday night, “The United States administration is planning to throw Israel under the bus.”

Referring to a report by Jeffrey Goldberg in The Atlantic that quoted officials in Washington as describing Netanyahu as “chickenshit,” Bennett slammed Obama administration officials.

“Not the leader of Syria who has massacred 150,000 of his citizens, nor the leader of Saudi Arabia who stones women and homosexuals, nor the leader of Iran who murdered demonstrators for freedom were called ‘chickenshit,’” Bennett wrote.

“The prime minister is not a private individual, but the leader of the Jewish State and the Jewish world as a whole. Serious curses such as these against the Israeli Prime Minister are harmful to millions of citizens of Israel and Jews worldwide,” Bennett wrote in a statement on his Facebook page.

“Israel is the only democratic nation in the Middle East and has been fighting for its existence for 66 years,” he continued. “Israel is the forward bastion of the free world in the face of Islamic terrorist of Islamic State, Hezbollah and Iran.”

“Instead of attacking Israel and forcing it to accept suicidal terms, it should be strengthened. I call on the US administration to renounce these coarse comments and to reject them” Bennett wrote.

“Israel is stronger than all those who curse it,” he added.

The Atlantic’s article highlights the growing tension in diplomatic relations between Israel and the US. Described as a “full-blown crisis”, a senior US official said that the “unbreakable” bond between the two nations “is now the worst it’s ever been.”

Thousands Of People In Europe Take To The Streets To Drive Out Islam

Europe is known for its soccer fan clubs who are widely called “soccer hooligans.” These call themselves the GnuHonnters, a take on the English term “new hunters.” Their motto is: “Comrades in spirit. Many colors, but one entity.” It refers to the fact that they support different soccer clubs. Now they are united under the banner “hooligans against [Islamic] Salafists” (HoGeSa) and they are fed up with the Muslim supremacy in Europe so this Sunday they decided to unite forces and demonstrate in Cologne Germany. Clashes soon erupted between police forces and HoGeSa protesters were at least 13 officers were injured, the German news agency DPA reported.

It all started peaceful with multitudes of demonstrators:

Then it escalated quickly and things turned ugly when anti-Hooligans threw objects at the demonstration from their balconies:

Earlier this month, Kurds in Germany clashed with radical Muslims in the northern city of Hamburg and elsewhere in street clashes fueled by the conflict involving the jihadist group Islamic State in northern Iraq and Syria.

Europe is different from the U.S. in which political activism either takes on extremist left wing or ultra conservative right wing forms. The media on the left says that these groups end up uniting with neo-Nazis and fascists while others say that the German media is demonizing the movement with the usual “Nazi” slur.

Despite the ridicule, soccer clubs have held meetings in at least three other cities, Monchengladbach, Hannover and Mannheim, to promote unity in the fight against the Islamification of Germany.

And in Great Britain, a popular movement (the EDL) against Islam is growing consisting largely of young men who demonstrate against Islam. The British media has often claimed that the EDL grew out of the “soccer hooligan” sub-culture. While many who participate in EDL demonstrations are right-wingers, it is otherwise apolitical. EDL encourages a wide spectrum of British citizens to become active in the singular cause of halting Islamic immigration and the Islamification of British cities.

And in Italy this October, thousands of Italians gathered in Milan to demonstrate against Islamic Supremacy:

Fighting against Muslim supremacy has become a European-wide phenomenon, something Shoebat.com has predicted long ago and it will grow with the growth of Islamism. Eventually life for Islamists in Europe will become uncomfortable which plays into the liberal media’s arguments falsely painting conservatives on equal par with Islamists.

But despite the media ridicule, in Western Europe, jointly organized protests against “Islamic supremacy” constitute the main focus of European party political activities. The alliance “Cities against Islamization” is an example of transnational cooperation comprising initiatives from Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Spain, Italy, France, the Netherlands, and England.

In Germany, “Hooligans gegen Salafisten” appears to be a growing broad spectrum anti-Islamification movement.

Hooligan culture is on the rise again in Germany. Fan commissioners from Aachen, Braunschweig, Dortmund, Düsseldorf and Frankfurt report that hooligans who were active as long ago as the 1990s are once again rising and are on the increase in what the media portrays as “right-wing motivated behavior”.

On Twitter, users tweeting under the #hogesa tag have written, “This movement must never rest until we are finally in charge of our own country again.” One woman wrote, “Germany is finally waking up,” while another tweet included a German flag bearing the words, “We don’t want a [Muslim] theocracy.”

Rainer Wendt, chair of the German Police Union, claims that the hooligan groups and the right-wing scene more generally are merely exploiting the topic of Salafism in Germany in order to mobilize their sympathizers and attract new supporters. Wendt adds that such groups’ frequent assertion that the German state is failing in its fight against Islamists is “nonsense,” saying, “What these people don’t accept is that we’re using legal means to address the matter rather than crowbars.”

But the masses are not satisfied.

The GnuHonnters network was founded on a farm in the town of Leichlingen, in the western state of North Rhine-Westphalia. Back then, at the beginning of 2012, the meeting was made up almost exclusively of old-time hooligans with paunches. Members of the Borussenfront, a group of hooligans associated with the Borussia Dortmund club, sent out the invitations, and it was the perfect chance to drink beer and reminisce over battles past.

From meeting to meeting, the number of people in attendance grew, with many more younger hooligans, martial artists and youth squads. They met sometimes in Frankfurt, sometimes in Berlin, and never in the same place twice.

Europe is in turmoil and as we can see, eventually the people get tired of Islamic supremacy and take action.

The Pope said the scientific account of the beginning of the universe and the development of life through evolution are compatible with the Catholic Church’s vision of creation. He told a meeting of the Vatican’s Pontifical Academy for Sciences: ‘The Big Bang, which today we hold to be the origin of the world, does not contradict the intervention of the divine creator but, rather, requires it.’

The Catholic Church no longer teaches creationism – the belief that God created the world in six days – and says that the account in the book of Genesis is an allegory for the way God created the world.

But he said Christians should reject the idea that world came into being by chance. Likewise, evolution was all part of God’s plan, he explained. The development of each creature’s characteristics over millennia ‘does not contrast with the notion of creation because evolution presupposes the creation of beings that evolve,’ he said.

“Reading Genesis we imagine that God is ‘a wizard with a magic wand’ capable of doing all things, he said. ‘But it is not so. He created life and let each creature develop according to the natural laws which he had given each one.’

Francis praised his predecessor, Benedict, who initiated attempts to shed the Catholic Church’s image of being anti-science, a label that stuck when it condemned the astronomer Galileo to death for teaching that the earth revolves around the sun.
