The war between Hamas militants and Israel has threatened to engulf the Middle East as neighbouring countries were drawn into the conflict and US president Joe Biden urged aligned groups not to get involved.
Upwards of 1,900 people have been killed on both sides since Saturday when the Al-Qassam Brigades, the militia arm of Hamas, staged a surprise attack on Israel that saw a fusillade of missiles launched into the country and gunmen invade its streets.
The war has threatened to draw in surrounding territories after shells were fired from Syria and Lebanon into Israel and Israel shelled the only land exit from Gaza into Egypt - shortly after an Israeli military spokesperson told civilians to flee through it.
