ISRAEL TELLS GAZANS TO MOVE SOUTH IN TWO DIRECTIONS AS EGYPT OPENS ITS BORDER TO GAZA AS WELL

 Israel has warned 1.1m Palestinians living in north Gaza to evacuate south, and thousands have been fleeing by vehicle or on foot

  1. UN chief António Guterres said the call for a mass evacuation was extremely hazardous and he urged humanitarian access
  2. Israel has also denied its military recovered bodies of missing Israelis in a ground raid on Gaza on Friday - contradicting earlier reports
  3. More than 1,300 people were killed in Israel last weekend when Hamas fighters crossed the border to attack civilians and soldiers
  4. Nearly 2,000 people have been killed in Israel's bombing campaign of the Gaza Strip launched in the aftermath, Palestinian authorities say
  5. The UK confirmed the Royal Air Force is helping evacuate British citizens from Israel - with flights operating from Tel Aviv to Cyprus.

  6. Hamas commander who led attack on southern Israel killed - IDF

    Israel's air force has said it has killed Ali Qadhi, the Hamas commander who led the cross-border attack on Israeli settlements last Saturday.

    The Israeli military said Ali Qadhi was killed in a drone strike following intelligence efforts by the Shin Bet security agency and Military Intelligence Directorate.

    • Civilians must head south between 10am and 4pm local time today, using two routes, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said
    • The call for a mass evacuation has been condemned by humanitarian groups and described by UN chief António Guterres as extremely hazardous
    • It comes after the Palestinian Health Ministry said the death toll following retaliatory strikes by Israel had reached 2,215, with 8,700 people injured
    • Meanwhile, Israel said more than 1,300 people were killed last weekend in Hamas' attack on civilians and soldiers
    • Earlier reports that the IDF had recovered the bodies of Israelis taken hostage by Hamas have since been dismissed as "inaccurate"
