Facial Recognition Software Firms Move To Prevent Law Enforcement From Using Their Technology by Geoffrey Grider As the technology advances, “real-time” facial recognition — which involves the constant scanning of live video feeds to match moving faces with a database of still images — is starting to spread. Facial recognition technology is a powerful tool, and it could absolutely prevent and solve a large amount of crimes. But the potential for abuse in the hands of law enforcement is off the charts, so much so that many firms that create facial recognition products and technology are now attempting to prevent the police, CIA, FBI and others from ever using it. "And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name." Revelation 13:16,17 (KJV) FROM NBC NEWS: Despite “real-time” facial recognition’s dazzling potential for crime-prevention, it is also raising alarms of the risks of mistakes and abuse. Those concerns are not only coming from privacy and civil rights advocates, but increasingly from tech firms themselves. In recent months, one tech executive has vowed never to sell his facial recognition products to police departments, and another has called on Congress to intervene. One company has formed an ethics board for guidance, and another says it might do the same. Employees and shareholders from some of the world’s biggest tech firms have pressed their leaders to get out of business with law enforcement. “Time is winding down but it’s not too late for someone to take a stand and keep this from happening,” said Brian Brackeen, the CEO of the facial recognition firm Kairos, who wants tech firms to join him in keeping the technology out of law enforcement’s hands. Brackeen, who is black, said he has long been troubled by facial recognition algorithms’ struggle to distinguish faces of people with dark skin, and the implications of its use by the government and police. The IDF intercepts a flotilla with 22 activists on board that was headed to Gaza with an intention to break the naval blockade on the strip; The activists, some of which are Israeli, said the vessel was hijacked; IDF 'Incident passed without exceptional events.'

Israel's military says it has intercepted a ship carrying activists en route to Gaza aiming to violate the legal naval blockade on the coastal territory.

The IDF Spokesperson's Unit said the ship had been monitored and was detained according to the international law. "The IDF forces clarified to the activists on the ship that they are violating the legal naval blockade and that any humanitarian equipment can be transferred to Gaza through Ashdod Port," the statement read.

Freedom Flotilla

The incident incident passed "without exceptional events" and the ship was taken to the Port of Ashdod. The Freedom Flotilla Coalition, an umbrella group comprising pro-Palestinian and Islamic charities from around the world, said on Twitter that Israel had "hijacked" the vessel.

It said there were 22 activists from 14 countries, mainly from Europe but also Malaysia, the US and Israel, carrying 100 boxes of medical aid for Gaza, on board of the Al Awda ship, which is only a few days ahead of another boat also making its way to the strip in an effort to break the blockade. Israel and Egypt imposed a blockade on Gaza after the Islamic militant group Hamas took over the territory in 2007.

Israel says it is crucial to prevent Hamas, a group sworn to Israel's destruction, from arming. Critics say it is collective punishment of Gaza's 2 million people. There have been several attempts to sail to Gaza in recent years, most notably in 2010 when nine Turkish nationals died during a violent confrontation with Israeli naval commandos.

Priests in the Catholic Church are not all homosexuals and pedophiles, now nuns from across the world are coming forward to recount horrific stories of sexual abuse by priests and other Catholic clergy. This news comes as Cardinal Theodore McCarrick, accused of sexual acts with both children and young seminarians, has become the first to lose his 'red hat' in modern times.
