2013 Currency War Begins: The first shots have been fired. Japan has pulled out the big guns. Mr. Shinzo Abe, the new Prime Minister of Japan is looking to stimulate Japan’s moribund economy. This is a response to the Federal Reserve’s quantitative easing program. “Helicopter Ben” of the Federal Reserve is dropping $85 billion into the U.S. economy every month. It is an attempt to debase the dollar and stimulate economic activity.
The end result will be the realization that the paper money we have in our pockets is just that, paper. It is backed by the hopelessly bankrupt U.S. government. That should all make us feel better. The curtain is rising on the planned cashless society. Gas prices are rising, payroll taxes have increased, reducing disposable income, and I have always wondered how you spell sequester. But, don’t worry, the government always does what is in our best interest. There has been an alarming fall in the value of the Japanese yen. Since November, 2012, it has fallen twenty percent against the dollar. As a country’s currency goes down in value, their exports become more competitive. This is critical for Japan’s export driven economy. It is a race to the bottom in which countries devalue their currencies in a desperate attempt to stimulate growth. The stunning devaluation of the yen is direct a result of Mr. Abe’s plan to create jobs in Japan. The downside is that other countries may retaliate as they realize a job created in Japan will be a job lost in their country. Japanese exports have suddenly become more competitive. It may not be long before other countries react by devaluing their currencies, and the race to the bottom will be on. Japan’s economy is the third largest in the world and what transpires there will have a significant global impact.

European Debt Implosion Imminent
There are those in Europe that believe the worst is over and the crisis hit its high point last summer. I beg to differ. Some say the problem was caused by the sovereign debt and banking crisis. These are the symptoms not the cause. The underlying problem is that the European Central Bank created a massive monetary bubble. When countries such as Ireland, Greece and Spain joined the Euro-zone the interest rates they paid on their bonds dropped to historically low levels. Rates dropped from double digits to levels close to what Europe’s financial powerhouse Germany was paying. This led to a wave of optimism and a tsunami of unwarranted and risky investments in these countries. The housing boom in Spain and Ireland was three to four times as overheated as the real estate bubble in America. Capital flowed into these countries completely out of proportion to the opportunities available. This led to a series of bailouts that strained the fabric of European cohesion. With unemployment surging to 27% in Spain and some in Greece searching for firewood because they can’t afford heating oil, the situation looks grim. It was reported that the German finance minister Wolfgang Schauble was quoted as saying that the crisis was a good thing because it would be used to force greater financial and political integration. Seems like a plan.

This week’s election results in Italy sparked a near financial panic in Europe. No single party won a majority and the country now faces a period of extreme political turmoil. Mario Monti, the technocrat appointed by the European Union to implement a rigid program of austerity only garnered ten percent of the vote. It was a clear rejection of his economic policies.

With political and economic debacles erupting almost daily coupled with an increase in natural disasters, global stability is tenuous. Anything could push the world into a downward economic death spiral, setting the stage for the apocalypse.

An article in The Wall Street Journal on 6/10/12 is rather interesting. It was written from Brussels and calls for a change in the European constitution. The change calls for a Federation, led by a directly elected “President of Europe”. Tonight as I am writing this, an article on page A12 of the New York Times details the devastating drought in the Midwest of the United States. I know it is not fair during the game of connect the dots to give you any hints but please go to page 4 in The Last Trumpet, left column, middle of the page.
The recent vote by the United Nations declaring that Palestine is now a Non-member Observer State is setting the stage for a unsolvable problem over the international status of Jerusalem. Oh, no…another hint… Please see page 5 bottom right. There seems to be a direct correlation with France, Japan, Britain, Russia, Iran, global trade war, gold, Europe, Midwest drought and Jerusalem. The interesting thing is it is all happening simultaneously. After reading The Last Trumpet, were you able to connect the dots?

I would humbly like to ask you a final question. Would it be easier for your friends and family to take a half an hour and read a dramatization about the coming seven year tribulation or have a real life seven year nightmare? When you think about what is happening and what is about to happen it should create and intense sense of urgency.
Think about this for a moment. When was the last time someone cared enough about your soul to share the glorious good news with you. I thought America had millions of born again Christian. I can’t remember the last time someone shared the gospel with me. The Church seems to be in a deepening spiritual coma when it comes to evangelism. The Lord calls us to be watchman on the wall. Please pray for John, Pastor Don, Pastor Fred and us.
