But, if we dig a little deeper, what is giving Islam a "bad name" is not simply what ISIS is doing. It's what Islam is teaching. According to the Qur’an, a true Muslim is one who pursues, fights against, strives against, is ruthless against, sieges, slays, beheads, strikes fear into the hearts of, and terrorizes non-Muslims in order to be victorious over them by either converting them to Islam or, if they refuse, destroying them. Even the “prophet” of Islam himself — who the Qur’an calls an “excellent example to follow” in Sura 33:21 — said that he was made “victorious with terror” (Hadith, Bukhari 2977). As such, if ISIS is not representing true Islam, then who today is most accurately representing Islam as it is taught in the Qur’an? On the grounds of the Qur'an itself, the "Islamic State" is not violating Islamic teachings. It is upholding them.
